While brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly are tried and true ways to keep teeth healthy, it's easy to forget that the foods we eat also play an important role in keeping teeth in top shape.  Eating a balanced diet, rich in nutrients, not only prevents a number of dental problems, but it's also important for general wellness too. Here, the American Dental Association provides eating tips to keep teeth healthy.

Limit sugar: While this may seem like common sense, many people don't know that the plaque on teeth contains cavity-causing bacteria. Sugary foods and beverages provide an all-day buffet for bacteria that release acid and attack teeth. Train your taste buds to enjoy healthy fare such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein, while keeping sweets to a minimum. Not only will your teeth thank you, but your waistline will too.
